Dear Friends,

I have just written an article on the debt crisis and deleveraging which appears in the new issue of Democracy, just released this past week. Some of the article will be familiar, but much is new, especially our research that shows that governments have essentially never deleveraged in any benign sense. We also have compiled data showing trends in private debt back to the 1700s. It's a short article, and I think it might be of interest to those of you follow government or private debt trends.
